Real history of Samsa Cavus or Samsa Alp

Real History of Samsa Cavus (Kurulus Osman) / Samsa Alp (Dirilis Ertugrul)

After watching Samsa Cavus in Kurulus Osman Season, the audience from the whole world have different opinions. Some of them believe that he is a fictional character added just by the director and producer. Some also believed that Samsa Alp in Dirilis Ertugrul Season and Samsa Cavus in Kurulus Osman Season are both different persons because Samsa Alp died in the previous one. So, in order to answer the audience’s questions and to clarify this amazing character, I have gathered some information that will definitely make you clear about him.

After all, we have to accept that it’s a TV Serial means no doubt they are following the real history but sometimes they have to make some adjustments to go through. What can be these adjustments? Like they want to make a serial more lengthy, want to increase the discussion rate about the serial, want to produce attraction within audience, and most important is to fulfill the actor’s desires etc. So, following all these circumstances, they make changes accordingly which definitely disturbs the audience. But today, my concern is to tell about the great character who played most important role in the establishment of the Ottoman Empire.

Both are same?

First of all, it should be clear to you that in Resurrection Dirilis Ertugrul, the character of Samsa Alp who died in the season, and now in Kurulus Osman, the character of Samsa Cavus are the same person or the same real character from the history of the Ottoman Empire. People felt the difference because Samsa Alp died in Resurrection Dirilis Ertugrul. Actually, the reason was the producers of Resurrection Dirilis Ertugrul had to make Samsa Alp die because of some private reasons being requested by actor portraying Samsa Alp, following the break of contract. The producers had to face the same situation also in the case of Esra Bilgic portraying Halime Sultan, as they had to make her die in childbirth. But in the real case, she died even one year after the death of Ertugrul Ghazi and was given the title of “The mother of the Turk Nation”.

Because of his importance in the establishment of the Ottoman State, the producers couldn’t ignore his character. So, Samsa Cavus was introduced in Kurulus Osman Season. So, I am repeating again for those who are of the opinion that Samsa Alp (of Dirilis Ertugrul) didn’t exist in the history that he was one of the great warriors of Ertugrul Ghazi and also from those who came Sogut along with him. His date of birth and place of birth are yet unknown. Samsa Alp / Samsa Cavus was one of those Alps who was blessed with long lives including Turgut Alp, Abdur Rahman Alp etc who played an important role and had their names carved in the foundation of the Ottoman Empire. Samsa Alp was also one of those who spent their lives in the leadership of Ertugrul Ghazi, Osman Ghazi and then Orhan Ghazi.

When Ertugrul came to Sogut, Samsa Alp / Samsa Cavus was accompanying him along with his tribe. He took part in many battles for mutual beliefs and to have a state for their tribes. Then during the period of Osman Ghazi, Samsa Cavus helped him to establish the same state. Finally, during the reign of Orhan Ghazi, he served as the competent guard to the Ottoman state. Samsa Alp was the first-ever person who was given the title of “Cavus” which means Sergeant. But the responsibilities and privileges were much more complex than an ordinary sergeant of today.  Samsa died after 1330 CE. He was buried in Hacımusalar village near Mudurnu where his tomb still stands today. Ismail Hakki is portraying his role in Kurulus Osman Season.

  1. I for one had a great feeling that Samsa Alp in the Ertugrul series and Samsa Cavus in the Osman series were one and the same person in history, and yes you are right….for whatever reason… sometimes history takes a back seat to actors/actresses, along with directors, etc, who really want to do something else or try to explain something for the audiences beneficial desires of action/adventure circumstances instead of the actual events. Thank you for explaining this fact.
